Delegation Visit to China

A Delegation from Bangladesh comprising of representatives from Government and private energy sector representatives visited China in August 2019 supported by Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Programme (REEEP II). Mr. Siddique Zobair, Member (energy Efficiency and Conservation), SREDA, Mr. Ahmed Zahir Khan, Director, Directorate of Renewable Energy Development, Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB), Mr. Mohammad Ataur Rahman Sarker, Treasurer, Bangladesh Solar and Renewable Energy Association (BSREA) and Mr. MD Irfanul Haq, Executive Member, BSREA were among the Bangladesh Delegation. Mr. Al Mudabbir Bin Anam, Programme Coordinator, REEEP II accompanied the Delegation.

The objective of this study trip had been manifold –

  • To support SREDA in coordinating with comparable organizations in the region
  • To support BSREA in its organizational development and collaborate with similar organisations in China
  • To support the Delegation to learn about floating solar technology.
As part of this study trip, the Delegation met and visited Guangzhou Energy Conservation Institute, China National Energy Convention Centre and China Renewable Energy Engineering Institute.

Through this visit SREDA outlined possible collaboration opportunities with the institutions for further follow up.  The Delegation also visited 11th International Solar PV Exhibition and Expo at Guangzhou. BSREA had a booth at the exhibition and presented their activities and interests for solar power development in Bangladesh. In addition to the solar expo, the Delegation also visited International Energy Conservation Expo and International Energy Storage Expo which were held at the same venue. In Hefei, Bangladesh Delegation visited the world’s largest floating solar plant, with a capacity of 150 MW; and plant EPC contractor Sungrow Solar Manufacturing Facility and R&D Centre. In Beijing, the Delegation further met with Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) Energy Team to discuss the joint project with GIZ on energy efficiency improvement in public buildings. AIIB also showed interest to invest further in Bangladesh for energy sector. A meeting with GIZ China Energy Programme was also held to learn more about clean energy development efforts of China and contribution from German Development Cooperation to support that.
