GIZ Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Week (REEW)

In October 2019, a Senior Delegation from Bangladesh attended GIZ Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Week (REEW 2019) at Berlin, Germany, supported by REEEP II. REEW is the largest expert workshop for partners of German bilateral development cooperation in the energy sector. Since 2011, it is organised annually by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). The event aims to support GIZ partners in efficiently promoting national transformation processes towards sustainable energy systems and energy access.

The thematic focus of 2019 workshop was interlinkages between energy and climate change leading to decarbonisation of the energy sector. Among the Delegation, Mr. Rahamat Ullah Mohd Dastagir, Additional Secretary (Planning and Renewable Energy), Power Division joined as a panellist at the session on NDC Implementation in the Energy Sector and Mr. Dipal C. Barua at the session on Private Sector Engagement in Climate Change Mitigation Efforts. Mr. Barua also joined the German private sector day organized for renewable energy entrepreneurs by German Solar Association (BSW-Solar) and presented on market potential for solar sector in Bangladesh.

The Delegation included Mr. Khaled Mahmood, Chairman, Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) and Mr. Md. Helal Uddin, Chairman, SREDA. REEW 2019 also brought innovative new technologies for orientation to the Global Energy Representatives, including recycling and reuse of solar batteries. The Government Delegation also visited the Offshore Wind Energy Expo at Amsterdam, Netherlands and explored transformative technologies and global service providers on offshore wind and cabling.
