In October 2019 REEEP II organized a three-day training on “Energy Management and Audit System under ISO 50001:2018” for textile industry representatives. During the training participants formulated action plans to implement energy saving solutions in their respective industries. As a follow up, a meeting took place at the premises of Bangladesh Garments, Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) on 16 February 2020. The meeting was presided over by Dr.. Rubana Huq, President of BGMEA. Mr. Wasim Zakariah, Chairman of BGMEA Standing Committee on Research and SDG Affairs was also present at the meeting.
The participants, who formerly received the training, shared their progresses, the challenges they faced and the next steps they have planned. She suggested the industry representatives to ramp-up their efforts to make real change on the ground. As a first step towards energy management certification, she suggested conducting investment grade energy audits, and organizing necessary documentation as per EnMs requirements. Possible collaboration between GIZ, SREDA and BGMEA in this journey was discussed.
