A comprehensive Energy Efficiency and Conservation Awareness campaign was conducted at the Bangladesh Air Force Shaheen English Medium College (BAF-SEMC) for more than 2000 students and teachers. Under the campaign, a range of participatory activities were organised, including an art competition, theoretical lectures, a quiz contest and a practical training on energy audit.

For Classes I to V, an art competition took place in January 2022 with prior theoretical introductions on sustainable energy. The competition motivated both the students and their families to think about generation of sustainable energy and its rational use, and how they could conserve energy in their everyday lives. The winning photographs were showcased in a colourful exhibition, which motivated the students further. The theoretical lectures included renewable energy, energy efficiency, energy conservation, climate change and environmental protection. They were conducted by international environment experts of the Independent Institute for Environmental Matters (UfU, Germany) and the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII, India). Based on the lectures, an online quiz was organised to anchor gained knowledge.

A more practical lecture about energy auditing at home and school was also conducted by CII, India for Classes VI to XII, to aware them on energy efficiency, how to transfer this knowledge into their daily lives and to convey this message to friends, families and others. The knowledge products, such as lecture recordings, presentations and booklets, were handed over to the school and SREDA. The campaign can be replicated at other schools and colleges across Bangladesh in future to engage young earth keepers for sustainable development.
