To increase energy efficiency and conservation at all levels, it is imperative to engage the youth actively in its promotion. With this goal, SREDA, with technical support from GIZ initiated “Bikiron” – a sustainable energy innovation challenge for university students. Launched on 9 September 2021, the national challenge urged university students to propose ideas and technical solutions in three categories.

Energy-Smart Buildings | Energy-Smart Villages | Energy-Smart Children

As our economy grows and socio-economic dynamics evolve – the need for sustainable solutions in these fields are imminent. The aspiring innovators were provided orientation these topics by renowned experts during the submission period. More than 100 ideas were submitted from universities across Bangladesh. After a rigorous screening process, 23 ideas moved onto the final round. During their final preparation, a grooming session was organised on storytelling, business model development, elevator pitch and design thinking.

On 11 November 2021, the teams showcased their refined presentations to a jury board comprising of eminent experts from academia, public and private sectors. After an intense assessment, winners were selected from each category. The winning teams were recognised in a grand ceremony in December 2021 in the presence of Dr. Ahmad Kaikaus, Principal Secretary to the Hon'ble Prime Minister, Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh.
