Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Programme (REEEP II)

For more than 40 years, the Federal Republic of Germany and the People’s Republic of Bangladesh have maintained a cordial bilateral relationship. Soon after Bangladesh achieved independence in 1972, Germany started to provide technical and financial support to the nation. Renewable energies and energy efficiency is one of the priority areas where these two countries collaborate. On behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, in collaboration with the Sustainable and Renewable Energy Development Authority (SREDA), is implementing the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Programme (REEEP II).

REEEP II, previously branded as the Sustainable Energy for Development (SED) project, has made significant contributions and impacts on creating the enabling conditions required to disseminate renewable energy and increase energy efficiency in Bangladesh.

REEEP II works with the Government of Bangladesh (GoB) to strengthen sustainable energy development. Together with public, private and civil society actors, the programme will provide strategic and implementation support for a national level awareness campaign on energy efficiency and conservation. REEEP II contributes to the national dissemination of solar rooftop programme through supporting the establishment of a national service desk and supplementary online portal. Moreover, the Programme supports the government to develop conducive sustainable energy policies and regulations and build the capacity of relevant national public and private agencies, civil society to sustain the development impact.

Objectives
  • Support framework improvement and cooperation among SREDA and other Stakeholders to achieve national target on renewable energy and energy efficiency.
  • Support implementation of the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Master plan through awareness development along the stakeholders’ value chain.
  • Provide technical assistance to the Government to implement solar rooftop programme under Net Metering Guideline.
ICEECA 2019

A three-day International Conference was held on 11-13 November 2019 at Dhaka, Bangladesh, organized by Sustainable and Renewable Energy Development Authority (SREDA) in collaboration with REEEP II and GIZ Sector Network TUEWAS (Transport, Environment, Energy and Water in Asia).

The underlying purpose of the conference was to provide a platform for sharing experiences among participants on the theme of the conference – "Awareness is key for an energy conscious society". With stimulating and timely topics on energy efficiency and conservation awareness, the conference drew lessons from regional success stories, suitable approaches and policy instruments in raising awareness and addressing behavioural and social aspects of adopting energy efficiency measures and ensure their energy-saving performance.
